EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern University redshirt junior Drew Ratner has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District V Men's Soccer First Team. By virtue of his first-team selection, Ratner is now eligible for Academic All-America consideration.

A native of Dallas, Texas, Ratner carries a 3.53 grade-point average while majoring in psychology. He has been an Academic All-Big Ten pick each of the past two years. Ratner has started 15 of 16 matches for the Wildcats while leading them to a No. 12 national ranking and an 11-3-2 overall record. The defender has played a key role in guiding Northwestern to a school-record nine shutouts so far this season and a 0.54 goals-against average that ranks in the top 10 nationally.

Ratner was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week Sept. 24 after the team posted a shutout win at then-No. 19 Ohio State. He was also recognized as the most valuable player of the Northern Illinois University adidas/Baymont Inn Invitational earlier this year after Northwestern earned a pair of wins without allowing a goal while scoring one himself.

CoSIDA District V encompasses Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Wisconsin along with Canadian provinces of Manitoba and Ontario. Members of CoSIDA in the region vote for academic all-district honors, with members of the first team from eight districts qualifying for the national ballot of the Academic All-America men's and women's soccer teams.

Northwestern winds up its regular season at 5 p.m. Saturday as it hosts Green Bay at Lakeside Field.
