Wildcats Qualify for Main Draw

EVANSTON, Ill.-- While the rest of the women's tennis team came home to rest for the upcoming Wildcat Invitational, Lauren Lui (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid) and Samantha Murray (Altrincham, England/Altrincham Grammar) stayed in Pacific Palisades, Calif. to qualify for the doubles portion of the All-American Main Draw.
In the first round of the qualifying doubles tournament, Lui and Murray teamed up to defeat Gira Schofield and Ana Marija Zubori of the University of South Carolina 8-3. In Wednesday's second round, the duo took on Kellie Schmitt and Karolina Soor of Marshall and won 8-5. The third and final qualifying round took place just hours after the second round matchup, which the 'Cats again won against former national champion Suzi Babos and Stephanie Kusano of California. With the win, Lui and Murray qualified to participate in the All-American Main Draw along with teammate Georgia Rose (Mettawa, Ill./North Shore County Day) on Oct. 4-7.
In the qualifying singles portion of the tournament, Lui fell to Diana Petrovic of N.C. State, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in the first round. Also, in the first round, Murray lost to Nevada's Maria Mizyuk in heartbreaking fashion 6-7(1), 1-6, 7-6(1).
Following the loss, Murray and Lui were both placed in the consolation bracket for another chance to qualify. Both took advantage in their first match as Lui defeated Nadia Abdala from Arizona State 6-2, 6-4 and Sam Murray beat her opponent from North Carolina 6-1, 6-3.
