Box Score

EVANSTON, Ill. --Despite spending most of the game on the Iowa State side of the field and winning the shot battle 17-5, the Wildcats fell to the Iowa State Cyclones 1-0 Sunday afternoon at the Leonard B. Thomas Athletic Complex. Sophomore Jenny Dunn (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Louisville) took four of the 'Cats' 17 shots

The Wildcats came out of the opening kick with a purpose, sustaining offensive pressure and taking multiple shots at the Iowa State goal. The Cyclones would strike first however, on a goal in the 13th minute by Leslie Hill. It gave Iowa State a 1-0 lead and concluded the scoring for the afternoon. The 'Cats had scoring opportunities in the first half, but the score stayed at 1-0 going into halftime.

The Wildcat offense put pressure on the Iowa State goalkeeper throughout the second half. Northwestern launched an assult on the Cyclone net in the middle of the frame, recording four shots in a one minute span and forcing three saves and a block. Dunn, fellow sophomore Krystal Patterson (St. Louis/Mo./Shiloh (Ga.)) and freshman Jessica Palo (Ames, Iowa/Ames) each had shots on goal. Junior Kelly Sitkowski (Elk Grove Village, Ill./James B. Conant) capped off the attack with a shot off a corner kick by junior Shannon Schneeman (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) that found the goalkeeper's hands. Junior Kelsey Hans (Lakeville, Minn.) also contributed to the offensive effort with four total shots including a header opportunity with 13 minutes remaining. The Wildcats outshot the Cyclones 11-2 in the second frame but could not get the equalizer.

"We made big strides since Friday and I'm very proud," head coach Stephanie Erickson said. "They kept going and they believed. I think we all thought we'd put one in, but we'll build on this."

Northwestern's record falls to 1-3 on the year. The 'Cats continue their home stand at 4 p.m. on Friday when they take on Morehead State.
