EVANSTON, Ill.-- Kelly Amonte Hiller, head coach of the back-to-back NCAA national champion women's lacrosse team, today announced the hiring of former Wildcat All-American Lindsey Munday to her coaching staff. Munday fills the void left by former assistant coach Alexis Venechanos who accepted the head coaching position at UMass last month.
"Lindsey is a dynamic and mature leader and to have someone that already instills all the values of the Northwestern lacrosse program makes it a smooth transition and we're exited about all the qualities she brings to the table," Amonte Hiller said. "She is very well respected by the team because of her accomplishments and maturity. She is one of the smartest players I've ever coached, so it's exciting to have her in the mix."
Munday was a standout midfielder for the Wildcats from 2003-06, claiming first-team IWLCA All-America honors each the past two years as the Wildcats became the first team in school history to win consecutive NCAA championships. She is first on Northwestern's all-time list with 128 career assists, second with 268 career points and fourth with 140 goals. In 2005 she set single-season marks for points (107) and assists (54) as the Wildcats stunned the lacrosse world by becoming the first school outside the Eastern Time Zone to win an NCAA lacrosse title--male or female at any level.
Munday went out as part of the winningest senior class in school history (64 wins). She orchestrated an offense that led the nation with 15.8 goals per game last season and helped the Wildcats set school records for goals (333), assists (165) and points (498) in a season.
