Evanston, Ill. -- Sophomore Alex Quinn (Watertown, Mass./Watertown) registered two goals, helping Northwestern to a 3-1 victory over Yale Saturday afternoon at the Leonard B. Thomas Athletic Complex. The Wildcats improve to 5-4 on the season.

"I'm proud of our team because we responded after last weekend," Head Coach Kelly McCollum said. "We stepped it up and were very threatening to their goalie the second part of the second half. To come out of this weekend 2-0 is a good weekend for us."

The Wildcats struck first on a goal knocked in by Quinn. Senior Meghan Small (Bethlehem, Pa./Moravian Academy) shot the ball and it was rejected by goalie Elizabeth Friedlander but Quinn followed-up on the shot and put stuck it to the right past Friedlander.

Yale responded seven minutes later on a break away by Rachel Lentz to even the game at one apiece.

Northwestern took advantage of one of its 12 penalty corners exactly four minutes later to go ahead 2-1. Christina Foley (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) took a give-and-go from Katie Charles (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) and put the ball in the back of the cage.

The Wildcats' defense dominated Yale in the second half, allowing only five shots compared to its 16.

Quinn scored her second goal of the game 63:13 into the contest to give Northwestern a 3-1 cushion.

Sophomore goalkeeper Emily Kyle (San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco University HS) recorded eight saves for the 'Cats.

Northwestern opens the Big Ten season at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 22 against Indiana at Lakeside Field.
