EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Northwestern Wildcats (2-4) dropped a 1-0 decision to the visiting Ball State Cardinals (3-1-2) this afternoon at a wet and rainy Lakeside Field in Evanston. NU showered Ball State with 13 shots but never found the back of the net. Jeanette Lorme led the Wildcats with three shots on goal.
The game's lone goal came in the 66th minute when Vandi Ogden fed Amy Holst from midfield as Ogden shook her defender and fired her shot from the top of the box into the right side of the Northwestern goal.
The Wildcats had plenty of scoring opportunities, especially in the second half, but were turned away each time.
Despite the one goal, Lauren Johnston was solid all game between the pipes for Northwestern. Her biggest save of the game was in the 70th minute when she made a diving save on a Ball State penalty kick to keep the Wildcats down only 1-0.
Rachael Murphy (3-1-2) recorded seven saves for Ball State.
Caitlin Carr recorded two shots on goal for Northwestern while Alicia Herczeg and Jessica Palo each had one.
Northwestern is back in action next Friday, Sept. 15 at home against Northern Illinois. Game time is 4 p.m.
