EVANSTON, Ill. -- Seven members of Northwestern's field hockey team have been named to the 2005 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic Squad, the NFHCA announced Monday. The Wildcats also are one of only 54 Division I schools to be recognized nationally by the NFHCA with a National Academic Team Award.

Northwestern, which had 10 players earn Academic All-Big Ten accolades earlier in the year, was one of only five conference teams honored with the NFHCA team award. The award is presented to schools with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Individually, Katie Charles (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington), Holly Palin (Mequon, Wis./University of Milwaukee H.S.), Lauren Przyborowski (River Forest, Ill./Oak Park River Forest), Ellen Schlafly (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS), Megan Sieberg (Toledo, Ohio/Maumee Valley Country Day), Meghan Small (Bethlehem, Pa./Moravian Academy) and Noreen Stewart (Farmington, Conn./Farmington) were named to the Division I National Academic Squad.

For Palin, a senior learning and organizational changes major, this is her fourth-consecutive NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad selection. She is joined on the squad by classmate Schlafly -- who earns her first NFHCA laurel.

Juniors Przyborowski, Sieberg and Small earn the honor for the third-consecutive year, while Charles, a sophomore, takes her second-straight National Academic Squad selection.

Stewart, a sophomore, earns her first-career selection.

"I am extremely proud of our student-athletes," head coach Kelly McCollum said. "The team award as well as the individual selections are a testament to the hard work our players have committed to both on and off of the field. Our kids strive to be the very best and these honors demonstrate what being a Northwestern student-athlete is all about."
