Day Two Complete for Wildcats at U.S. Open

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Four Wildcats competed individually on day two of USA Swimming's U.S. Open Friday in West Lafayette, Ind., and NU's 400-medley relay turned in a 10th-place finish during the night session.
Freshman Rachel Rys (Goleta, Calif./Dos Pueblos) turned in Northwestern's best performance of Friday, finishing 26th overall as the C-final's second alternate with a time of 1:03.71 in the 100-meter fly.
Freshman Genny Szymanski (Haines, Alaska/Haines) took 41st out of 94 in the 100-meter back, swimming a time of 1:06.90.
Both Emily Wong (Nepean, Ontario/St. Joseph's) and Jenn Kocsis (Omaha, Neb./Marian) swam in the 200-meter freestyle, but neither advanced to the finals heats. Wong finished seventh overall in Thursday's 100-meter free event.
The quartet of Szymanski, sophomore Hayley Fry (Marian, Iowa/Linn-Mar), Rys and Wong swam a 4:25.30 during Friday night's 400-meter medley relay to capture 10th place overall.
