EVANSTON, Ill. -- In the last event of the fall season the Wildcats will head to Ann Arbor for the Big Ten Singles Championships hosted by the University of Michigan. Senior Christian Tempke (Wentorf, Germany/Gymnasium LohbrÜgge) received the No. 5 seed and senior Willy Lock (Lima, Peru/Markham College) is the No. 14 seed in the main singles draw. Play in the qualifying draw begins Friday and the main draw commences Saturday morning.
Tempke, seeded fifth, will face a qualifier in his first round match Saturday. The senior is looking to make some noise this year after bowing out in the first round in 2005. Tempke won two matches in the back draw last season.
Lock, the No. 14 seed, has enjoyed a very successful fall in doubles, advancing through the qualifying draw and into the second round of the ITA All-American Championships with partner Matt Christian (Troy, Mich./Brother Rice). Lock will face Michael Dierberger from Wisconsin in the first round.
Christian will take on 13th-seeded Raoul Schwark of Minnesota in his first round match while junior Juan Gomez (Mexico City, Mexico) will face Indiana's David Bubenicek, the No. 8 seed.
Sophomore Alexey Evstratenkov (Moscow, Russia/Moscow International Gymnasia) will dual with another seeded player in No. 6 seed Nic Edlefsen of Minnesota. Sophomore Marc Dwyer (Peachtree, Ga./University of Nebraska-Independent Study H.S.) will take to the court against Penn State's Brendan Lynch in the first round to round out the Wildcats in the main draw. Dwyer reached the round of 16 in 2005.
Freshman Alex Sanborn (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid) is seeded eighth in the qualifying draw and will face the winner of Iowa's Patrick Dwyer and Wisconsin's Elliott Bisnow on Friday.
Michigan's Varsity Tennis Center will have point-by-point live scoring for each main draw match. Log on to MGoBlue.com for live scoring and updated results and draws at the end of each day.
