Iowa Outlasts Wildcats 3-1

Iowa City, Iowa -- Iowa scored three minutes into the match and held Northwestern's offense to just four shots en route to a 3-1 victory Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Alex Quinn (Watertown, Mass./Watertown) scored NU's (6-7, 1-2) only goal of the game.
"Iowa is a strong team who outplayed us today," Head Coach Kelly McCollum said. "They have very solid defenders and our attack played into their strengths. We made today a very difficult day for ourselves, but we will be ready to get back after it next week."
The Hawkeyes set the tone early when they recorded the first goal three minutes into the match on a short shot by Caitlin McCurdy.
Northwestern responded when sophomore Annie Bosslet (Granite City, Ill./Villa Duchesne (Mo.)) found Quinn on a short shot at the 17:01 mark to notch the score at one. Quinn's goal was her fifth on the season.
Iowa added another goal less than a minute before the half to take a 2-1 advantage.
The Hawkeye defense held NU shotless in the second half while adding an insurance goal midway through the second half.
Iowa earned eight corners to the Wildcats' three.
Jill Putnam (Greenfield, Mass./Greenfield) and Christina Foley (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) also launched shots for the 'Cats. Emily Kyle (San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco University H.S.) recorded four saves.
Northwestern returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 15 when it travels to Columbus for an 11 a.m. CT contest with the Buckeyes.
