EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's 16th-ranked Wildcats close out the fall portion of their 2006-07 schedule this weekend (Oct. 13-15) at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships in Knoxville, Tenn.
The Wildcats have savored a strong fall, finishing no worse than third in any of their three events. Northwestern placed second at the Lady Northern, third at the Wolverine Invitational, and then won the team title last weekend at the Lady Paladin Invitational.
Alice Kim (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood) made it a clean sweep at the Lady Paladin, earning medalist honors thanks to her even-par total of 216, the second lowest 54-hole tournament score in the program's history.
Balanced scoring has been the hallmark of the Wildcats' fall campaign. Kim, senior Liliana Alvarez (Durango, Mexico/American School of Durango) and junior Brittany Johnston (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) have all posted a pair of top-10 finishes this fall.
Unfortunately for the Wildcats, Northwestern will be without Alvarez this weekend, who is playing in the World Team Amateur Tournament in Capetown, South Africa. She is a member of the Mexican national team.
Sophomore Jennifer Hong (Windermere, Fla./The First Academy) made it seven top-10 individual finishes for Northwestern this fall when she placed in a tie for 10th at the Lady Paladin.
This weekend the 'Cats face their toughest competition of the year to date. There are 10 teams from Golfweek's top-30 in the Mercedes-Benz field: No. 1 Georgia, No. 8 North Carolina, No. 10 Auburn, No. 12 Tennessee, No. 13 Michigan State, No. 14 Michigan, No. 23 Kent State, No. 25 Florida, No. 27 Arkansas and the 16th-ranked Wildcats.
Rounding out the field are No. 32 SMU, No. 38 Alabama, No. 41 Furman, No. 73 Penn State and the Swedish Junior National team.
The Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships are being played at Cherokee Country Club, a par-71 layout that measures 5,932 yards.
Live scoring for the 54-hole event can be found at Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships.
