LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Northwestern started its 2006 season with an exhibition match against the U.S. women's lacrosse team, and the result was a 19-13 victory for the Wildcats.

The exhibition contest consisted of three 30-minute periods.

The 'Cats jumped on the U.S. team early in the first period and led 8-6 after the first 30 minutes and 14-9 after 60.

But even in the final 30 minutes, the 'Cats never took their foot off the gas pedal, outscoring the U.S. team 5-4 in the final stanza for the seven-goal victory.

Northwestern, which is coming off a 21-0 season that included an NCAA national championship, now prepares for its season-opening match on Feb. 12 at Maryland.
