KENOSHA, Ill. -- Led by a pair of top 10 finishes by sophomore Marie Grabinski (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) and freshman Carly Brown (Kalispell, Mont./Flathead), Northwestern topped the squads at the 2005 Midwest Collegiate on Saturday, Sept. 17.
"This was a good race for us because we were able to control it," said head coach Amy Tush. "It allowed us to build confidence going into the Griak, where we will face most of the top 25 teams in the country. We are very young and very talented and still learning what kind of team we are."
Grabinski, who finished first in every meet for the Wildcats last season, clocked a time of 18:46 over the 5K race, good for a third-place finish overall. Brown crossed the line ten seconds later, at 18:56 to come in ninth.
Four of NU's top finishers, including Brown, were freshmen. Megan Young (Rochester Hills, Mich./Detroit CD) finished eight seconds behind Brown, at 19:04. Allison King (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) finished 18th with a time of 19:08 and Hilary Forman (Prairie Village, Kan./Pembroke), the Wildcat's fifth finisher, recorded a time of 19:14.
The Wildcats head to Minneapolis next Saturday, Sept. 24 for the Griak Invitational. The race is slated to begin at 12:10.
