Wildcats Set to Host Ball State

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's field hockey team will face off against Ball State at noon on Friday, Sept. 16. Northwestern is riding a four-game winning streak heading into the match with the Cardinals.

With their 4-1 record and win over Virginia, the Wildcats have also attracted national attention. Northwestern received 93 votes in the most recent NFHCA poll, giving them the second-most votes of any unranked team.

Ball State is coming off its first win of the season, a 2-1 decision over Providence. Prior to the Providence match, the Cardinals had fallen to William & Mary, Virginia and Iowa.

The Big Ten released its weekly statistics on Monday, Sept. 12, and Northwestern ranks at or near the top in several statistical categories. The Wildcats are first in saves (53), second in shots per game (17.6), assists per game (2), goals per game (3.2) and are third in goals scored (16).

Individually, Sherri-Anne Nyberg (Kelowna, British Columbia/Kelowna Secondary) leads the Big Ten in saves (52), Meghan Small (Bethlehem, Pa./Moravian Academy) is first in shots (22) and Ellen Schlafly (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS) ranks third in points per game (1.8).

The Wildcats will play their second match of the weekend at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18 against Louisville.
