EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's Kelsey Hans (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville) was named to the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week for having a hand in all six goals scored in the Wildcats' undefeated weekend. It is the first time an NU women's soccer player has been selected to this national team of the week.
Hans was the driving force behind NU's 3-2 overtime victory against Oakland Friday night, as she tallied two goals and dished out one assist. Her shot as seconds were running down in overtime set up the game-winning rebound by teammate Tabitha Lowey (Peachtree City, Ga./Mcintosh).
Hans matched her productivity the following game, scoring twice and tallying one assist in the Wildcats' 3-0 shutout against Davidson on Sunday.
With the four goals, Hans now moves up to third on Northwestern's individual career scoring records list. She has 19 goals on her career, which ties her with Ashleigh Garmon (2001-04), Katie Hertz (1998-01) and Dionna Latimer (1995-98).
It is not the first time Hans has been honored by Soccer Buzz. Last season, she racked-up postseason accolades, earning a spot on the second-team Freshman All-America squad as well as second-team All-Great Lakes Region and Great Lakes Region All-Freshman. The Wildcats' leading scorer in 2004 set a school record for goals (15), as well as the marks for Big Ten goals (7) and points (15). She also was named second-team All-Big Ten and Big Ten All-Freshman.
Hans and the Wildcats next take on Central Michigan at Lakeside Field on Friday, Sept. 16 at 4 p.m. NU (5-1) is off to its best start since 1998 when the Wildcats were also 5-1 through six matches.
