Three Wildcats To Swim at World University Games

IZMIR, Turkey -- Northwestern is well represented at the World University Games Aug. 12-17 in Izmir, Turkey, with a pair of swimmers competing for the U.S. team while another is swimming for Bulgaria.
Sophomore Andrea Hupman and junior Matt Grevers are participating in the Games for the United States. Junior Mike Alexandrov reprises his role in the 2004 Olympic Games for his native Bulgaria.
Hupman is scheduled to swim in the 4x100 freestyle relay Friday, Aug. 12, during the meet's first day.
Grevers, the 2005 NCAA 100 backstroke champion, is participating in four different events: the 100 free, 50 back, 100 back and 4x100 free relay.
Alexandrov is a breaststroke specialist who captured a silver in the 200 breast and a bronze in the 100 breast at the 2005 NCAA Championships. He participated in the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece, with his best finish coming in the 400 IM (18th).
The World University Games are comprised of 131 countries represented in 14 different sports.
