EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern women's lacrosse coach Kelly Amonte Hiller has certainly demonstrated her prowess as a leader from the sidelines the last four years, building a Wildcat program from scratch and leading it to the NCAA title last month.
However, the NU mentor proved that she still has some game left in her. Amonte Hiller was among the 16 players selected to represent the United States in the 2005 International Federation of Women's Lacrosse Associations' World Cup.

The 2005 IFWLA World Cup, featuring a record 10 countries, will be hosted by US Lacrosse from June 23-July 2 at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. -- the same place that Amonte Hiller's Northwestern team won its national title.
The roster, selected by head coach Sue Stahl and her staff, includes 12 players with previous World Cup experience -- among them Amonte Hiller, who won World Cup titles with the U.S. team in 1997 and 2001. Well-established stars Danielle Gallagher, Cherie Greer and Jess Wilk are each playing on their fourth World Cup teams. Newcomers to the World Cup team include three 2003 college graduates, including 2003 Tewaaraton Trophy winner Rachael Becker.
Amonte Hiller also is one of four women on the team who are head coaches at the college level; the others are Sarah Nelson (Harvard), Bonnie Rosen (Connecticut) and Jess Wilk (Virginia, field hockey).
The U.S. has won four straight World Cup championships and five of the six championships played all-time. This is only the second time the event has been played in the U.S., and the first since 1986. The U.S. is attempting to become the first host nation to win the World Cup.
