EVANSTON, Ill. - Sophomore midfielder Kristen Kjellman has been named American Lacrosse Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season. The announcement was made today by the ALC.
She was also named to the womenslacrosse.com National Honor Roll for the week.
Kjellman was honored after her stellar performance in the top-ranked Wildcats' title-clinching win Sunday at Vanderbilt, where she recorded two goals, two assists and a staggering nine draw controls. NU's 18-8 victory over the Commodores allowed the 'Cats to win at least a share of the ALC crown, and clinch the conference's NCAA Tournament berth.
Northwestern will attempt to finish off the first unbeaten season in program history (including the first era of lacrosse, from 1982-92) Thursday afternoon against Ohio State. That game will start at 4 p.m. CDT and will be broadcast live on College Sports Television (CSTV).
Kjellman -- a leading candidate for the Tewaaraton Trophy, given annually to the top college lacrosse player in the country -- is Northwestern's second-leading scorer this season, with a team-high 45 goals and 28 assists for 73 points. She is third in the nation in points per game (4.87), tied for seventh in assists per game (1.87), and tied for 16th in goals per game (3.00). In addition, Kjellman is 10th nationally in draw controls per game (3.33).
