EVANSTON, Ill. -- Six Wildcats have earned Academic All-America honors from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. Senior Brielle Bovee and freshman Andrea Hupman earned All-America distinctions while Carrera Harris, Amy Mueller, Michelle Oeser and Marijana Surkovic were tabbed honorable mention honorees.

"We are extremely proud of our student-athletes who have committed themselves to academic excellence as well as success in the pool," NU head coach Jimmy Tierney said. "This year's team has worked hard to improve their overall performance in the classroom. These honorees are indicative of the high level student-athlete we strive to bring to Northwestern University. They have set a high standard that we will work hard to maintain in the coming years."

This is the first season since 2002 that NU has had individual student-athletes tabbed for the award. Last season, the Wildcats were named a scholar-athlete team by the CSCAA.

Also, Mueller will join Sara Petric as co-captains for the 2005-06 season.

"I am excited to announce that Amy Mueller and Sara Petric will be co-captains for 2005-06," Tierney said. "Both of these women have displayed great leadership over the past three years. They are highly respected by their coaches and teammates and will set a standard for excellence in the coming year. I look forward to working closely with both Sara and Amy to create a fun and challenging environment for our team."
