EVANSTON, Ill. -- Coming off a first-place finish in its last outing, Northwestern rolls into this weekend's Lady Boilermaker Invitational on a high note. The Wildcats won the Mountain View Collegiate on March 27 and would like to sustain the momentum with the Big Ten Championships just two weeks away.
"We get to face several region foes, as well as five other Big Ten teams this weekend, so it's an important tournament for us," says head coach Chris Regenberg.
This year's invitational has a field of 14 teams, led by six Big Ten schools. In addition to the Wildcats, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin and host Purdue are in the field. East Carolina, Iowa State, Jacksonville State, Kansas, Kent State, Notre Dame, TCU and Texas A&M round out the field.
Michigan, who is hosting this year's Big Ten Championships, is the highest ranked team (No. 25) in the Lady Boilermaker. TCU (No. 28), Purdue (No. 34), Kent State (No. 35) and Texas A&M (No. 39) are ranked just ahead of the Wildcats (No. 44).
Senior Ina Kim (Encino, Calif./Harvard-Westlake), who is coming off a career-best second-place finish at the Mountain View Collegiate, leads the Wildcats with five top-20 showings this year. She earned her first Big Ten Golfer of the Week honor for her efforts at the Mountain View event.
The Lady Boilermaker Invitational begins at 8 a.m. CT on Saturday, April 9 with a shotgun start. The teams will play 36 holes Saturday and then another 18 on Sunday.
