EVANSTON, Ill. - Top-seeded Illinois defeated fifth-seeded Northwestern, 4-0, in the semifinals of the Big Ten Championship Saturday. The Illini claimed the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and 3 positions, and later won at No. 1, 4 and 5 singles to advance to their 10th-consecutive Championship final.
The Wildcats will now wait to see if their 12-12 overall record is good enough to get them into the NCAA Championship field.
NU is squarely on the tournament bubble, but quality upset wins over then-No. 18 North Carolina and then-No. 24 Ohio State this season could push the 'Cats over the hump.
