EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern women's lacrosse player Lindsay Finocchiaro was named to the Inside Lacrosse and womenslacrosse.com National Honor Rolls this week. She is the fourth Wildcat player this season to receive weekly honors from the websites devoted to women's lacrosse, and this is her first weekly honor from either site.
Finocchiaro, a sophomore defender, was named to the Honor Roll after her stellar performance carried the No. 1-ranked Wildcats to a convincing 12-3 win over 11th-ranked Johns Hopkins last Friday. Finocchiaro was assigned to the Blue Jays' Mary Key -- who entered the game ranked second in the nation in scoring -- and held her to just one goal. In addition, Finocchiaro got forward to score a goal of her own, giving her three this season.
As a team, Northwestern (15-0, 4-0 ALC) allowed just three goals for the second-consecutive game and the fifth time this season. Perhaps more amazing, the Wildcats held the Blue Jays scoreless for the game's final 46:09, rattling off 10 unanswered goals to gain the victory. Northwestern leads the nation in goals-against average (5.86), and this week the 'Cats head to Vanderbilt with a chance to clinch a share of their second straight American Lacrosse Conference title.
Finocchiaro currently is second on the team with 22 caused turnovers and fourth with 25 ground balls. She also has 11 draw controls.
