EVANSTON, Ill. - A sunny Saturday afternoon saw the Northwestern men's tennis team play outdoors at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center for the first time this season, but the Wildcats fell to Indiana by a slim 4-3 count.

The teams split the singles matches, 3-3, with NU recording straight-set victories at No. 2, 3 and 4, but the Hoosiers' doubles point proved to be the deciding factor. The loss drops Northwestern to 6-10 overall and 1-3 in the Big Ten, while the Hoosiers move above .500 to 9-8 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

Seniors Tommy Hanus (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) and Chuck Perrin (Atlanta, Ga./The Walker School) began the day at No. 1 doubles by throttling Recht and Stone, 8-3. The duo took control early on and shot ahead 3-0. Hanus later fired an ace to close out the seventh game, extending their lead to 6-1. In the 11th game, Hanus notched two more aces for the 8-3 win, improving his team's dual record to 2-1.

After falling behind 3-7 at No. 2 doubles, junior Adam Schaechterle (Oconomowoc, Wis./Kettle Moraine) and senior Justin Hoeveler (Ross, Calif./The Branson School) battled back to within one point at 6-7. In the 14th game though, they could not break Ishtuganov's serve, as their comeback fell short in the 8-6 loss.

Hoosiers McCarthy and McLouglin dropped sophomore Christian Tempke (Wentorf, Germany/Gymnasium Lohbrugge) and Willy Lock, 8-4, at No. 3 doubles to give Indiana a 1-0 advantage.

Tempke and Lock both rebounded in singles action though, recording victories at No 2 and 4, respectively.

Perrin followed his doubles victory with a 6-2, 7-6 (5) win at No. 3 singles. This marked the second-straight match where the Atlanta, Ga. native has won both his singles and doubles contests.

Northwestern is back in action at noon Sunday, April 3. Weather permitting, the `Cats will once again play outside.
