Wildcats Place Sixth at Lady Buckeye; Alice Kim Finishes Third

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Led by sophomore Alice Kim (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood), Northwestern moved up a spot and finished sixth at the 25th Lady Buckeye Invitational, held at Ohio State's Scarlet Course. Kim finished in a two-way tie for third place, seven strokes back of OSU's Lindsay Knowlton, who fired a 4-under 68 on Sunday.
Michigan State held off the Buckeyes to win the team title. OSU, the defending champion, had won its own tournament four of the last five times.
Kim shot a 2-over 74 on Sunday to finish with a 5-over 221 (76-71-74). Her third-place showing is the best of the season. Last year, Kim placed a career-best second at the Lady Boilermaker Invitational.
Sophomore Kelly Robb (Concord, Mass./Middlesex School) also turned in her best spring showing with a 14-over 230 (74-79-77), good enough for 20th place. Senior Ina Kim (Encino, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) saw her string of top-20 finishes come to an end with an 18-over 234 (77-77-80). Sophomore Heather Scholten also fired an 18-over 234 (78-80-76). Both players finished 31st.
NU's two freshmen -- Brittany Johnston (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) and Katie Trachok (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) -- placed 42nd and 50th, respectively.
The regular season is now over for the Wildcats, who travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., later this week for the Big Ten Championships. The tournament begins Friday and continues through Sunday, with 72 holes being played.
