EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern (9-10, 4-3 Big Ten) won its third match in a row Sunday at Iowa, defeating the Hawkeyes, 5-2. The 'Cats finish the weekend with two, key road wins in conference play.
Against the Hawkeyes, NU dropped the doubles point and fell into an early 1-0 hole, but rallied to win five of six singles matches for the overall win. It marked the second time this year the 'Cats have battled back to win after falling behind, 1-0.
A few 'Cats continued their winning streaks: Seniors Tommy Hanus (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) and Chuck Perrin (Atlanta, Ga./The Walker School) recorded their fifth-straight win at No. 1 doubles. Perrin closed out a perfect weekend for himself by winning his singles match, as well.
Sophomore Willy Lock (Lima, Peru/Markham College) won his fourth-straight Big Ten match, improving to a team-best 6-1 in the conference. Classmate Matt Christian (Troy, Mich./Brother Rice) remained perfect on the weekend with a straight-set win at No. 6 over Adam Schaechterle's twin brother Aaron.
A win by Hanus at No. 1 singles over Malempati clinched NU's third win in a row.
The Wildcats continue their road trip through the conference next weekend, traveling to No. 2 Illinois and Purdue.
