EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern Head Coach Kelly McCollum has announced the signing of five members of the Class of 2009 to National Letters of Intent. The group will matriculate to Northwestern in the fall and be eligible to compete in the 2005 season.
"Our staff is excited about the incoming class," McCollum said. "They are a talented group of players that are determined to make Northwestern field hockey better. They are invested in winning and bring a level of athleticism and skill that will fit nicely with our returning group. Our program will take another step forward with the addition of this class."
Signees Jill Putnam (Greenfield, Mass./Greenfield) and Alexandra Quinn (Watertown, Mass./Watertown) hail from Massachusetts. Both were second-team All-America selections as seniors.
"Jill has great speed and skill that will help us on the forward line," McCollum said. "Her experience on one of the top club teams in Massachusetts has prepared her well for this next challenge.
"Alex brings a high level of field hockey experience and knowledge. She will be a dangerous attack player for our squad next year."
Alison Bullock (Boyds, Md./Stone Ridge) was a three-time all-league selection in Maryland and has six years of experience with the USFHA Futures program.
"Alison's athleticism is her greatest asset," McCollum said. "She is committed to training year round and will use that to raise the level of those around her."
In addition to being a three-time all-league selection in field hockey, Missouri product Annie Bosslet (Granite City, Mo./Villa Duchesne) played four years of basketball and soccer in high school.
"Anne is a true competitor," McCollum said. "She is a multi-sport athlete who invests herself fully in all that she does. She brings a tough, competitive edge that will make our team better."
The Wildcats will get a third goalkeeper with the incoming class, adding San Francisco native Emily Kyle (San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco University HS). Kyle was named league MVP as a senior and brings a wealth of international club experience.
"Emily's quickness, explosiveness and work ethic are critical to the goalkeeper position," McCollum said. "She is committed to challenging in the cage and raising our level at that position."
