DURHAM, N.H. - After spotting New Hampshire a two-goal lead early in the second half -- trailing for the first time in seven games -- the top-ranked Northwestern women's lacrosse team showed why it is the top offense in the country, scoring eight of the final nine goals to earn a 14-9 victory Thursday afternoon at UNH's Memorial Field.

Northwestern (8-0) jumped on top of UNH 4-0 in the first 7:27 of the game, thanks to two goals from Courtney Flynn and single tallies by Sarah Albrecht and Lindsey Munday. After UNH called timeout, Jill Albee put the homestanding Wildcats on the board with an unassisted goal, followed by a goal from Katie Leland off an assist from Jess Burnap.

After Northwestern scored at the 12:21 mark to make the score 5-2, Burnap took over in the next ten minutes, scoring twice and assisting on a goal by Moira Talbot to bring UNH into a 5-5 tie. Munday scored her second goal of the game to put the visiting Wildcats back on top 6-5 heading into halftime.

Off a draw awarded to UNH to start the second half, Kristin Blanchette found Leland all alone in the offensive zone, and Leland buried a shot past Northwestern goalie Ashley Gersuk to tie the game at six 15 seconds into the second half. Seeming to gain momentum from that goal, New Hampshire kept up the pressure, and Albee and Burnap scored within a minute of each other to give UNH an 8-6 lead with 24:35 left in the second half. It marked the first time Northwestern had trailed in a game since the season opener against North Carolina.

However, Munday -- Northwestern's leader in points heading into the match -- brought the 'Cats back into an 8-8 tie with two straight goals, then assisted on Kristen Kjellman's first goal of the game at 17:05 to give Northwestern a 9-8 lead. After Albee scored her third goal of the match off a feed from Leland at 18:34, Kjellman scored off another assist from Munday at 22:43 to give Northwestern the lead for good.

With UNH forced to pressure Northwestern as time elapsed, the field was opened to the visiting Wildcat team to score four more goals in the last six minutes, two of them by Kjellman to give her four in the match. Munday also scored late in the match to earn her fifth goal of the game and 21st of the season, while Aly Josephs notched her second goal of the match in the final minutes.

Burnap led UNH with three goals and two assists for five points, while Leland had four points on two goals and two assists. UNH goalie Stacy Plati made 11 saves, while Gersuk stopped six UNH shots for Northwestern. Northwestern outshot UNH, 32-22, while UNH made 19 turnovers to Northwestern's 14 mistakes.

Northwestern is now off until next Friday, when the Wildcats begin a six-game homestand by hosting Rutgers at the Thomas Athletic Complex. Start time for that game is slated for 4 p.m.
