EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern quickly established itself as the superior team Sunday against California, scoring the game's first 10 goals and never looking back in rolling to an 18-6 victory over the Golden Bears.

With the win at the Thomas Athletic Complex, the Wildcats improved to 7-0 on the season; only the 1983 team (10-0) from the previous era of NU lacrosse can claim a better start.

Speaking of fast starts, that was the case Sunday. Laura Glassanos got the Wildcats rolling, scoring off a Lindsey Munday assist just 3:23 into the game and then finishing a solo effort more than five minutes later to give NU a 2-0 lead.

Munday converted a free-position goal at the 9:22 mark, and then a three-goal run within a span of 50 seconds doubled the Wildcats' three-goal lead to six. Emily Lovett started the run, off a feed from Ashley Koester, then All-America Kristen Kjellman finished a feed from Munday and Aly Josephs netted her first of the day.

Kjellman and Josephs scored again at 16:55 and 19:25, respectively, and just 23 seconds after Josephs' goal Sarah Albrecht finished a feed from Kjellman to make the score 9-0. Less than four minutes later, Annie Elliott put NU in double digits off a feed from Courtney Koester.

Cal (4-3) -- which entered Sunday's game having won four of its last five -- finally got on the board with 1:23 left in the half when Danni Zuralow converted a free-position goal, but NU responded when Quinn Cammarota knocked in her own free-position effort with 11 seconds left before halftime.

Glassanos started the second-half scoring, before Laura Cavallo scored back-to-back goals just 1:07 apart (the second with an assist from Molly Brady). Munday answered Cavallo's goals with her own goal, then assisted Kristen Boege's first goal of the day. After Kjellman notched her third of the day, Cavallo came back with her third of the day for the Bears, followed soon afterward by Liz Reifsnyder's first.

NU scored three of the game's last four goals in the game's final 10 minutes, though, as Courtney Flynn, Kjellman and Elliott all scored.

Ashley Gersuk had seven saves and six ground balls for NU from her goalkeeper position, and the Koester twins had another strong performance -- Courtney Koester had seven draw controls, two caused turnovers and an assist, while Ashley Koester had three draws, two CT and an assist.

Northwestern is back in action Thursday, playing at the University of New Hampshire.
