EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's lacrosse team inched up another spot in the IWLCA national coaches poll this week, from No. 3 to No. 2. The Wildcats are behind only Princeton (2-0), which received all 15 first-place votes.

That ranking was upheld in the Inside Lacrosse and womenslacrosse.com rankings. All three rankings were released Monday.
Northwestern's move up came as a result of previous No. 1 Virginia losing to Penn State during the weekend. In fact, the IWLCA poll this week features five teams from the American Lacrosse Conference (which NU plays in) -- in addition to the Wildcats, Penn State is No. 10, Johns Hopkins is No. 12, Ohio State is No. 15, and Vanderbilt is No. 16.
Northwestern is off to its best start in the modern era (since 2002) at 6-0, and the lofty ranking is a testament to how quickly the fourth-year program has ascended under head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller. The Wildcats are off this week due to exams, but will hit the field Sunday when they host California at the Thomas Athletic Complex (1 p.m.).
