EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern Head Coach Tim Lenahan has announced the signing of five members of the Class of 2009 to National Letters of Intent. The quintet will matriculate to NU this fall for the 2005 season.
"I am very happy with this group," Lenahan said. "We really have a well-rounded class. With ten seniors on next year's team, this group will have a chance to learn under the guidance of the players who really helped build this program and pass on the tradition of excellence that has become Northwestern Men's Soccer."
Geoff Fallon (St. Louis, Mo./Chaminade), Misha Rosenthal (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep), Brian Usinger (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield), Tyler Voigt (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South) and Tim Weir (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis University High School) comprise the group.
"Geoff is a very good player out of Chaminade High School which has a great tradition of producing great players including (current NU freshman) Dave Roth," Lenahan said. "As a left-sided player, he should find his way on the field at either left-back or left midfield.
"Misha attended our camp last year and really impressed us with his size, athleticism and personality. I think he will be one of the top goalkeepers in the Big Ten in the near future."
"Brian is a big, tough and strong defender and his size will serve him well in the Big Ten. He has a very competitive spirit and I think he will be one of the fine central defenders in the Big Ten in the future.
"Tyler is a relentless worker who attended our camp last summer. He has a great work rate and is very determined to succeed and seems to improve each time we have seen him.
"Tim is a very skilled player and another one of those outstanding St. Louis players to head to Northwestern. He has a great feel for the game and could develop into a very good player at this level."
