DENVER, Colo. - Northwestern defeated Oregon, 21-2, in women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon in a neutral-site game at the University of Denver.
The third-ranked Wildcats outscored the Ducks 13-0 in the first half, and added three more in the second stanza before Oregon -- a first-year program -- finally got on the board. After the Ducks scored a second goal, NU closed the scoring with another five-goal run in improving to 2-0.
Oregon is now 0-3, having lost to Denver Friday and Stanford last weekend in its season opener.
Courtney Flynn led the Wildcat goal-scoring brigade, with four tallies. Laura Glassanos had three goals and dished out four assists, while Lindsey Munday had two goals and two assists.
Lynda McCandlish, Jenny Bush and Kristen Boege scored two goals apiece, as 11 different NU players found the goal.
At the other end, Ashley Gersuk played the first 35 minutes without allowing a goal, before deferring to Meredith Philipp for the final 25 minutes. Defensively, All-America candidate Courtney Koester had an astounding nine draw contorls, while her twin sister Ashley Koester had five ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Flynn and Glassanos had two ground balls each.
Northwestern is back in action Sunday, taking on Denver at noon MST (1 p.m. Central).
