EVANSTON, Ill. - Fresh off a 6-5 win at North Carolina over the weekend, the Northwestern women's lacrosse team completed a trifecta when the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) ranked the Wildcats third in its preseason poll. Previously, NU was ranked third in the preseason polls put out by Inside Lacrosse and Lacrosse Magazine.
The IWLCA poll is done by a national panel of coaches and is considered by many to be the "official" rankings for women's college lacrosse.

This is the highest ranking ever in the IWLCA poll for a Northwestern team, and in addition it is the highest ever for a team from the four-year-old American Lacrosse Conference. The previous high was the Wildcats' No. 6 ranking at the end of last season.
NU is one of four ALC teams in the poll. Johns Hopkins is ranked sixth, while Vanderbilt -- which tied the 'Cats for last year's conference title -- is preseason No. 15 and Penn State is No. 17.
Northwesetern is one of a handful of Division I teams that have played already this season, ahead of the preseason poll. The first poll that will include results will be released Monday, March 7.
