PARRISH, Fla. -- Northwestern opened its spring season with 36 holes of golf on Monday at the Central District Classic. Led by sophomore Alice Kim (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood), the Wildcats are in 13th place in the 15-team event. Missouri holds a two-stroke lead over Arkansas in the team race.
Northwestern finished 49-over (317-308=625) following Monday's two rounds. The third and final round will be played Tuesday. Just ahead of the Wildcats in eighth place is three-time defending Big Ten champion Ohio State (+37).
Kim fired a 1-over 73 in her first round of the spring, and was sitting in second place after the first 18 holes. In the second round, Kim finished 5-over and is now 6-over (73-77=150) for the tournament and in 16th place.
Sophomore Heather Scholten (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) is 41st with a 12-over 156 (79-77). Another sophomore, Kelly Robb (Concord, Mass./Middlesex School) bounced back from a 15-over 87 in the first round with a second-round team-best 4-over 76. She is tied for 66th overall (87-76=163).
Freshman Brittany Johnston (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) and senior Ina Kim (Encino, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) are 61st and 64th, respectively, with scores of 17-over (83-78=161) and 18-over (82-80=162).
