UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Despite a gutsy effort, Northwestern's women's basketball team dropped an 83-56 decision to No. 24 Penn State at the Bryce Jordan Center on Sunday. Northwestern is now 5-22 overall, and 2-12 in the Big Ten.
Senior Suzanne Morrison (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Detroit County Day) and junior Ifeoma Okonkwo (Spring, Texas/Klein Oak) led the Wildcats. Morrison was 8-of-17 shooting, good for a team-high 16 points, and pulled down five rebounds. Okonkwo chipped in 11 points, and tied her career-high assist mark, dishing out five. She also contributed five boards and one steal. Samantha McComb (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington) added four steals, just one shy of her career mark.
Northwestern, playing without senior Sarah Kwasinski, shot better from the field (41.5 percent) than the Lady Lions, but were outrebounded 32-43.
Tanisha Wright and Jennifer Harris tied for the game-high 20 points for the conference leaders. Amanda Brown grabbed a contest-high 14 caroms for Penn State.
The Wildcats are back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at Wisconsin for a 7 p.m. CT tip.
