EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern looks to continue its winning streak this weekend when it heads to Happy Valley to face conference-foe Penn State at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7.

Coming off a three-week road stint, the Wildcats had a warm homecoming last week by beating Illinois-Chicago and Michigan State at the Leonard B. Thomas Athletic Complex.

The Wildcats scored twice within the first 15 minutes of their match against UIC, then played solid defense to shut out the Flames, 2-0. Junior John Carlstedt (Indianapolis, Ind./Brebeuf Jesuit) scored his first goal of the year, while Brad North (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands) fired his fifth.

The Wildcats came out playing with a chip on their shoulder against Michigan State on Sunday. Even during Northwestern's historic 2004 season, the Spartans were a thorn in Northwestern's side, beating them twice.

Northwestern made sure the same wouldn't be true this season, stonewalling the Spartans, 2-0. Carlstedt scored his second goal in two matches with a shot from 30 yards out just three minutes into the match. Then Daniel Chille (Lake Zurich, Ill./Stevenson) put the match away for the Wildcats when he scored his first goal of the season.

The 'Cats have featured a balanced scoring attack this season, with seven players having scored goals and 11 tallying points.

North leads the team in total points with 10, while Carlstedt and sophomore David Roth (St. Louis, Mo./Chaminade College Prep) follow with five each.

Penn State (3-6-2) is coming fresh off of playing two of the best teams in the country last week. The Nittany Lions topped defending-national champion Indiana 1-0 in overtime, then dropped their match to No. 2 Akron, 2-1.

The Nittany Lions are led by freshman forward Jason Yeisley. Yeisley has 12 points this season, with five and two assists.

Northwestern will also play Princeton (3-4-1) at Noon Sunday, Oct. 9. Princeton, which is coming off a loss to Dartmouth, is led by Darren Spicer and Adrian Melville who have nine and seven points respectively. This is Northwestern's first meeting against Princeton.
