Will Briley Named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Big Ten Conference has announced Northwestern goalkeeper Will Briley (Longview, Texas/Longview) has been named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.
Briley earned the honor after he notched two saves against Illinois-Chicago and five against Michigan State last week, recording shutouts in both contests. He helped the Wildcats record their first back-to-back regular-season shutout victories since 2003.
Briley's biggest save of the week came when Michigan State's Ryan McMahen was awarded a penalty kick with 8:30 left to play in the match. Briley dove to save McMahen's attempt, got back on his feet and saved the rebound as well.
Briley and the Wildcats will be back in action at 6:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7 at Penn State.
