GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Sophomore Brittany Johnston (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) carded an even-par 72 Sunday at the Lady Paladin Invitational to help Northwestern finish fifth in the 17-team tournament.
Johnston's third-round performance lifted her to a season-best 18th-place finish (76-79-72=227).
The Wildcats, ranked 44th in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin index, finished 16 strokes behind the host school, Furman, which won the event for a second consecutive year. Michigan State, ranked 14th nationally, placed fourth, five strokes ahead of the 'Cats.
Freshman Jennifer Hong (Windermere, Fla./The First Academy) and junior Alice Kim (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood) finished in 10th and 15th place, respectively. Hong shot a 9-over 225 (77-70-78) while Kim had a 10-over 226 (73-77-76).
Juniors Heather Scholten (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) and Kelly Robb (Concord, Mass./Middlesex) placed a respective 45th and 59th.
The Wildcats play their final fall tournament next weekend (Oct. 21-23), the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships in Knoxville, Tenn.
