EVANSTON, Ill. - Inside Lacrosse magazine has released its 2005 Preseason All-America Teams in women's lacrosse, and five Northwestern women are included on the three teams.
Senior Courtney Koester and sophomore Kristen Kjellman lead the quintet with first-team honors. Koester was a first-team All-America last year, while Kjellman was second-team All-America as well as Inside Lacrosse National Freshman of the Year.
Courtney's twin sister Ashley Koester earned second-team recognition. She received second-team All-ALC honors in 2004, in addition to second-team IWLCA Regional All-America.
Senior goalkeeper Ashley Gersuk and junior attack Lindsey Munday were third-team All-America selections by the publication. Gersuk was a third-team All-America last year and second-team All-ALC in the cage, while Munday was a second-team IWLCA Regional All-America and All-ALC.
Northwestern is mere weeks away from kicking off the 2005 season -- just its fourth back as a varsity under head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller -- looking to capitalize on a 2004 campaign that saw them go 15-3, win a share of the 2004 ALC title, and advance to the NCAA quarterfinal round.
The All-American list and preseason rankings are compiled by Inside Lacrosse magazine. Published 11 times annually in Towson, Md., Inside Lacrosse is the leading publication on the sport of lacrosse, with subscribers in all 50 states and eight foreign countries.
The All-America lists, along with team profiles, player profiles and season previews, will be available in the women's preview issue of Inside Lacrosse, which will hit newsstands in early February.
