EVANSTON, Ill. - Sixth-ranked Northwestern rolls into South Bend, Ind. this weekend for the Notre Dame Duals -- Saturday, Jan. 29 and Sunday, Jan. 30 -- on the strength of a perfect 19-0 record. The duals feature a number of the premier teams in the nation, with top-ranked Ohio State, second-ranked Notre Dame and third-ranked Penn State all set to compete.

Last year, the Wildcats posted an 8-1 record at the duals, knocking off then-No. 2 Ohio State on the final day of competition by a count of 17-10. Northwestern's only lost came to the Fighting Irish, who were the top-ranked team at the time.

The `Cats will get a chance to avenge that loss when they take on the host school in Saturday's final match at 3:30 p.m.

A number of all-Americans and former NCAA Champions will take to the mats Saturday and Sunday, but the star-studded collection of women's foilists could prove to be the highlight of the weekend.

The women's foil division includes seven of the top-nine finishers from the 2004 NCAAs: Notre Dame's Alicja Kryczalo ('02, '03, '04), her classmate Andrea Ament (2nd; also 2nd in '02, 3rd in '03), Ohio State twins Hanna (3rd in '02 and '04; 8th in '03) and Metta (5th in '02-'04) Thompson, Penn State's Anna Donath (7th in '04; 6th in '03) and Meredith Chin (9th in '04; 12 in '02, 15th in '03) and Northwestern senior Julia Foldi (8th in '02 and '04; 10th in '03).

Three others have competed in the NCAAs: Northwestern sophomore Jessica Florendo (13th in '04) and junior Christina Wang (20th in '03) and Cal State Fullerton's Senta Breden (17th in '03, 20th in '04).

Following this weekend's competition, the 'Cats will venture to warmer weather on the west coast for a Thursday, Feb. 3 bout with Stanford.
