Northwestern improved to 13-0 on the year with four victories on the first day of the NU Duals.

Wildcats Sweep Four Matches at First Day of NU Duals

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern dominated the first day of the NU Duals Saturday, Jan. 22, winning all four of its matches by an average of almost 20 points. The No. 6 Wildcats improve to 13-0 on the year.

Northwestern defeated Michigan State 22-5, Michigan 23-4, Cleveland State 25-2 and Detroit-Mercy 23-4.

Sara Pecherek, Kelsey Nencheck and Courtney DuBois led the `Cats in the epee competition against the Spartans, each posting a pair of victories.

Against Michigan, NU's saber squad was a perfect 9-0, as Mai Vu led the way with three victories. Lauren Van Gieson and Lauren Dunn also recorded two victories against the Wolverines.

Northwestern's sabreists posted another perfect 9-0 mark next against Cleveland State, and the foil team followed suit by running the table 9-0 as well. Christina Wang, Natalie Wang and Jessica Florendo all posted three victories in the foil division.

The epee squad brought the `Cats first day of competition to a strong finish by shutting out Detroit-Mercy 9-0. DuBois, Pecherek and Nencheck each racked up three victories.
