Northwestern swept the doubles competition and took four of six singles matches to beat DePaul Saturday night in the Wildcats' first dual match of the season. Two `Cats posted victories in both singles and doubles.

The win improved Northwestern's all-time record against the Blue Demons to 16-0.

DePaul's Mark Henderson took down senior Chuck Perrin at the No. 1 singles position, and Sam Davidson defeated sophomore Matt Christian (Troy, Mich./Brother's Rice) but the `Cats ran the table the rest of the way.

Sophomores Willy Lock (Lima, Peru/Markham College) and Jamie Friedland (Glen Cove, N.Y./St. Stephen's) each won their singles bouts in straight sets at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, respectively. Fellow classmate Christian Tempke (Wentorf, Germany/Gymnasium Lohbrugge) also won in straight sets, 7-6, 6-3, after pulling out the close first frame.

Junior Adam Schaechterle (Oconomowoc, Wis./Kettle Moraine) took his match deep into the third set before ultimately pulling out the win. After dropping the first set to DePaul's George Wang, Schaechterle won the second frame 6-4. With Schaechterle up 6-5 in the decisive frame, he broke Wang's serve to complete the win.

Perrin teamed with senior Justin Hoeveler (Ross, Calif./The Branson School) to take down Henderson and Davidson, 8-6. Christian and Friedland followed with a 8-6 doubles victory of their own, and Hanus and Schaechterle put the icing on the cake with a 8-4 decision over Kotroczo and Huffman.

The `Cats are next in action Monday, Jan. 17 at Combe Tennis Center against Western Michigan.
