PROVO, Utah - Northwestern defeated Southern Utah, 4-0, in women's soccer action Saturday afternoon on the Brigham Young University campus.
Freshman Kelsey Hans scored twice for the 'Cats, giving her four goals in as many collegiate matches.
"This was a good way for us to end our trip," said NU head coach Jenny Haigh. "We got on this team pretty quickly and were able to stay ahead of them. We also got to use our entire bench, and that was nice."
Julie Lipinski got things started for the Wildcats (2-2), scoring what would prove to be the match-winner in the 25th minute on an unassisted effort. Just before the end of the half, Hans scored her first of the match when she dribbled across the top of the area and fired home a left-footed shot.
Any chance of Southern Utah (0-4) climbing back into this match in the second half quickly evaporated when Kelly Sitkowski scored off an Ashleigh Garmon feed just 38 seconds in. Less than eight minutes later, Hans closed out the scoring with a right-footed blast that snuck into the upper corner.
Northwestern is home for two matches next weekend, taking on Samford Friday afternoon and Southeast Missouri State Sunday.
