EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's lacrosse program has announced its fall schedule, and after a spectacular 2004 season the Wildcats have lined up a daunting array of opposition to prepare for the 2005 campaign.

"We are thrilled about our fall schedule," said NU head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller, last year's IWLCA Mid-Atlantic Region and American Lacrosse Conference (ALC) Coach of the Year. "For us, the fall is a time to get out and really push our game to another level without fear of failure. We are looking forward to integrating some new and talented freshmen into our established unit."

The Wildcats will begin the fall season this Sunday on the Leonard B. Thomas Athletic Complex turf field, hosting a series of mini-games against ALC rival Ohio State beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Following that, the team hits the road the weekend of Oct. 16-17 where it will face a series of challenges. On Saturday the 16th, NU will participate in a tournament at Georgetown, taking on the Hoyas at 2:30 and then defending national champion Virginia at 3:40. The Cavaliers, of course, ended Northwestern's season last year in the NCAA quarterfinal round en route to their title, while the Hoyas are a perennial national power.

On Sunday, the Wildcats head up the road to Princeton where they will play Rutgers -- a team they beat by a goal last season -- and Syracuse as well as the Tigers, last year's national runner-up.

The fall season will conclude with an alumni game on Saturday, Oct. 30 during Homecoming weekend.

"The overall level of teams that we are playing against this fall is very strong," said Amonte Hiller. "We have a good mix of teams that we have played in the past and some that we have never seen. We hope this fall will provide a springboard to an exciting 2005 season."

Northwestern, which advanced to the NCAA quarterfinal round last year and ranked as high as sixth nationally, returns all but one player from last year's roster including two IWLCA All-Americans (senior Courtney Koester, sophomore Kristen Kjellman) and six All-ALC selections.
