Wildcats Take Third at Mary Fossum Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Senior Ina Kim (Encino, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) posted a 2-over 74 in Sunday's final round and sophomore Alice Kim (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood) was not far behind with a 4-over 76 as the duo led Northwestern to a third-place finish at Michigan State's Mary Fossum Invitational. The Wildcats finished just one stroke behind defending champion Michigan State and seven strokes back of this year's winner, Michigan.
Ina Kim improved with each round as she shot a three-round total of 12-over 228 (78-76-74) to claim fifth place. She started her final round with a birdie and closed with one as well. Alice Kim placed sixth (76-78-76=230). Both Ina and Alice began Sunday in a tie for 13th.
The 'Cats had a final-round team score of 311. For the second consecutive round, only Michigan was better with a 310.
Freshman Katie Trachok (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) finished 20-over 236 (79-73-84) and in 28th place for the tournament. Freshman Brittany Johnston (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) and sophomore Kelly Robb (Concord, Mass./Middlesex School) finished in a tie for 37th at 23-over 239.

The 'Cats look to maintain their momentum when they return to action Friday through Sunday, Oct. 8-10, at the Mercedes-Benz Championships in Knoxville, Tenn.
