MUNCIE, Ind. -- Northwestern used three second-half goals to erase a 2-0 halftime deficit and defeat Ball State Saturday afternoon, 3-2. Candice Cooper (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier), Cassie Miller (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) and Megan Sieberg (Toledo, Ohio/Maumee Valley Country Day) all caged shots in the second half for NU.
In a game that proved to be the tale of two halves, Ball State (1-4) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half.
"We were very disappointed in our first half," NU head coach Kelly McCollum said. "We left it up to the team and they found a way in the second half."
Cooper got the 19th-ranked Wildcats (5-3) on the board five minutes into the second period on a penalty stroke. Miller, a freshman, scored the second goal of her career to knot the game at 2-2 on a rebound.
Sieberg then corralled a rebound of her own and put it home to give Northwestern the lead and eventually the win.
"Cassie and Megan made a huge difference for us in the second half," McCollum said. "They came into the game and never came back out."
McCollum credits defensive captain Morgan Kuhn (Chesterfield, Mo./Lafayette) with keeping the Wildcats close enough to mount the come back.
"Morgan was our mainstay from start to finish today," McCollum said. "She played all over the field and really was a leader for us."
Northwestern returns to action Saturday, Sept. 24, with a 3 p.m. nonconference tilt against Iowa at the Leonard B. Thomas Athletic Complex.
