EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern women's lacrosse coach Kelly Amonte Hiller was named the Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Saturday night.

The honor comes on the heels of NU's successful 2004 campaign, and adds to her collection of honors -- she also has been named National Coach of the Year by Inside Lacrosse magazine and womenslacrosse.com.

The IWLCA announced the recipients of its 2004 awards at the All-American banquet held in Baltimore Saturday night.

Amonte Hiller was joined as a Regional Coach of the Year by Sandy Bridgeman at New Hampshire, who was honored in the North region. Virginia's Julie Myers, who was the South region's top mentor, took home the award for National Coach of the Year after leading the Cavaliers to the NCAA title on May 23.

In just its third year back as a varsity program, Northwestern went 15-3, tying for the American Lacrosse Conference title in the process with Final Four participant Vanderbilt at 5-1. The Wildcats began the season not among the IWLCA Top 20 poll, but finished the regular season in the No. 6 spot after putting together a 13-game winning streak that began in late February and continued until an overtime loss to the Commodores in the regular-season finale. The 'Cats also qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since its return to varsity status, defeating Notre Dame 10-8 in the first round before losing to Virginia 15-11 in the quarterfinal round.

Northwestern loses just one player to graduation (Angela McMahon) and will return six players who earned All-ALC honors this season.
