AUSTIN, Texas -- Northwestern closed out the final day of the 26th Annual Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational with a 48-over 336 Tuesday and finished in a 16th-place tie with Kansas State University. The three-day tournament was played at The Hills Country Club, perhaps the most difficult course the 38th-ranked Wildcats will play this year.
Vanderbilt came from behind to edge Texas, the host school, by two strokes. Vandy's Chris Brady, who held the lead going into the final round, held off a challenge by California's Sophia Sheridan and won the event by two strokes.
Northwestern was led by sisters Mary Ellen Grzebien (Saunderstown, R.I./Narragansett) and Lauren Grzebien (Saunderstown, R.I./Narragansett), who fired 10-over 82's on Tuesday. Mary Ellen finished in 52nd place (83-84-82=249) for NU's best score. Lauren was a stroke back at 34-over (85-83-82=250) and placed 55th, along with NU freshman Alice Kim (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood). Kim had rounds of 80, 84 and 86 for a 34-over 250.
Freshman Kelly Robb (Concord, Mass./Middlesex) finished 64th at 37-over (84-83-86=253). Junior Ina Kim (Encino, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) and freshman Heather Scholten (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) were 73rd and 84th, respectively.
