Oeser Finishes 53rd in First Event at NCAA Championships

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Northwestern sophomore Michelle Oeser (Eliot, Maine/Marshwood) finished 53rd in the 50 freestyle during the first day of competition at the NCAA Championships in College Station, Texas.

Oeser swam a 26.03 in her preliminary heat, but a time of 25.37 was needed to finish in the top 16 and advance to the finals in the event. She finished ahead of 18 other swimmers in the 71-competitor field.

Oeser's teammate, junior Christy Olin (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West), begins competition tomorrow in the 100 butterfly. Both Oeser (100 free) and Olin (200 fly) will be in action during the Championships' final day of competition Saturday.
