PHILADELPHIA--Northwestern's fifth-ranked fencing team had a solid day at the Penn Duals, garnering three wins, including one against No. 9 Harvard.

"I am happy enough with our 3-1 record," said head coach Laurie Schiller. "We fenced good matches all day, but we just could not get that fourth win."

The Wildcats' first win of the day was a 19-8 decision over Rutgers. That was followed by a 15-12 victory against the Crimson. NU (29-4) closed out the day by handily defeating Drew 25-2.

Northwestern's only defeat of the day was at the hands of No. 8 Penn, which nipped the 'Cats 15-12. The win kept the Quakers perfect this season, as they improved to 13-0.

"Penn is a very good team," said Schiller. "It was not a bad loss in my mind."

Julia F?ldi (Budapest, Hungary/Szent Istavan Gimnazium) went 11-0 to pace her teammates; the junior foilest improved to a team-best 75-4. Fellow foilest Jessica Florendo (Forest Hills, N.Y./The Dwight School) followed with an 11-1 showing as her squad finished 30-6.

NU fencers will next compete in the USFA National Junior Olympics Feb. 13-16 in Cleveland, Ohio.
