EVANSTON, Ill.--Northwestern's fifth-ranked fencing team (26-3) heads East to compete in the Penn Duals Saturday in Philadelphia. The Wildcats are scheduled to meet No. 8 Penn, No. 9 Harvard, Rutgers and Drew in fencing action.

In her first competition since injuring her leg at the USFA North American Cup in early January, foilest Christina Wang (Milpitas, Calif./Castilleja) went 11-3 at the Notre Dame Duals last weekend. That record includes 3-0 outings against both Air Force and Detroit, improving her to 33-8 overall this season.

"Christina did what we needed her to do," said head coach Laurie Schiller. "Even with some discomfort, she sucked it up and did a good job. It helps us tremendously that she is back."

Also looking to be a force on Saturday are foilests Jessica Florendo (Forest Hills, N.Y./The Dwight School), who churned out 21 wins and just three losses last weekend, and Julia F?ldi (Budapest, Hungary/Szent Istavan Gimnazium), who went 22-2. Florendo, F?ldi and Wang helped lead their squad to an 8-1 record; overall, they are 27-2.

"There will be a big battle in foil, especially against Harvard," said Schiller. "I think we can do very well, not just in foil. We have the ability to win all the duals."

This will be the second-to-last, regular-season dual meet for the 'Cats before they compete in the Midwest Fencing Championships and the Midwest Regional Championships. Next week, NU fencers will take part in the USFA National Junior Olympics.
